In these lectures we introduce the basics of integrable vertex models, focusing on the six vertex model. After defining the model, we discuss integrable weights and the Yang-Baxter equation. As a main example, we study the domain wall boundary six vertex model. We describe its relationship with domino tilings of the Aztec diamond and alternating side matrices, as well as sketching the proof of the determinantal formula for its partition function.
